Well in everyones life a little rain must pour , but in our case it came from the sprinkler system pipes over my studio on the 2nd floor. While we have been in Bisbee the pipes froze and broke in our condo back home in Santa Fe and tons of water poured down and the ceilings caved in . The condo maintenance man saw water running out the doors and truned off the main valve . Our friend Fred took these pictures after we called him for his help . I have not had the courage to go home yet and see the mess, but am letting the pros handle everything. We have been advised that these types of total losses are very emotional for home owners .Water flooded down the stairs and walls to the first floor . The entire place now needs gutting as all the walls are ruined and many furnishings and electronics are ruined too. Our insurance company sent an emergency crew over to start the salvage and brought out a large container . Everything will be moved into it and then sent to a place to dry out what can be saved .Books and papers are frozen and sent to Texas to a restoration place. Once everything is moved out the gutting of walls etc. can happen and rebuilding can begin. I am trying to figure out what the universe is trying to tell me . My gut feeling is saying Santa Fe is not for you "my Dear" ( My friend Renee would agree I bet!!! ) as it has done it to you again!! I have had past bad luck in Santa Fe but keep moving away and then insisting on coming back!! I think it is time to let go for good and move on ... trust the universe to open new doors and walk through them to hopefully new opportunities . Any one have any ideas ???? Cal and I are serious!!! If anyone knows of a good very inexpensive place to live and with opportunities for 2 creative people let me know . Cal has great building and handyman skills . Any where in the country will do we are only looking for the open door of change !

I´ve had a flood before whilst we were in the house...... Absolutely terrible but you survive and thank the universe for insurance.
Tenerife is a great place but maybe a bit far for you.
So sorry to hear about the water problems. Hopefully, there is very little damage to your creative materials.

So sorry to hear about your flood - wow - I can't even begin to imagine how that would feel. You seem to be taking it in stride and I hope you continue to feel at peace with the situation.
I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma and it is a nice place to live. The weather isn't too bad despite the rumors of how many tornadoes people think we have.
The people here are friendly and believe it or not, there are things to do here.

While I would love you to move to the Midwest, I don't think there's an abundance of opportunity here. If there is, I'm missing it! I know there's a huge creative community in Portland. I've never been there but my sister has and LOVES it.

I met a VERY old woman the other day who just moved into a condo near Las Olas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I asked her where she had moved from and she laughed and said "Everywhere!". Turns out she moves all the time to see new places, meet new people and experience life to the fullest.
Here, she walks around beautiful Las Olas, eats at the street resturants, drinks Sangria and visits the galleries. She also said that this would NOT be her last home and she was really looking forward to living in the islands! She wasn't sure where she wanted to eventually settle down! I LOVED her! What a spirit and love of life!
My heart breaks for you with this recent disaster, but life is good.
Look forward to your next adventure and I hope it's a place you LOVE.

I am so very sorry for you, how totally devastating this must be. I can only imagine how many little treasures and tiny items you must have with the wonderul creative things that you make. My husband and I moved to beautiul Whidbey Island, WA after a devastating car accident. It is a mecca here for artists and there are studio tours that take place here twice a year. We have found great healing in nature here. Keeping you in my prayers.
Wow...this is difficult but it seems as if you are embracing it as opportunity to step into another direction...or at least another place. Our home has been "flooded by the economy" and I do understand loss of what you felt was there for you, suddenly being gone. The wonderful thing about this country we live in is the opportunity to start over. That is exciting and who knows the wonderful adventure that awaits you. I am so sorry for your loss and I hope you find the things you truely love intact...I think you will...

Santa Fe does not seem to be the right place.......for you. What about Phoenix? Didn't you just recently move?
You have taught all over and I am sure there are some places that have appealed to you. Maybe the two of you need a "road trip" through the middle of the country?

Maybe someone/something IS trying to tell you something....
Sometimes when you keep returning to a place it is to subconciously make good what was wrong, somethings won't or can't be repaired. So my advice, for what it is worth...
...Listen very carefully... And follow your instincts.
You could make a complete change and come to live here in the UK, I live in a beautiful riverside village, with lot of creative people all around, from textiles to print from ceramics to graphics and it's a beautiful and creative place to live.... Despite the rain hammering down on the roof of the conservatory..
Cal would love it here too, lots of very old buildings, and old boats that always need repair together with two good pubs that sell real ale down by the river front... The possibilities are endless.
I have homemade chocolate cake and a cups of tea at the ready...
Oh no, Julie, I'm so very sorry. Could I suggest moving to Las Cruces, still in the wonderful state of Southern NM. It's right up the road from my home in El Paso, TX and our weather in the region is gorgeous. My brother lives off of 70 and has a beautiful view of the Organ Mountains. Also, the art community there is very active and well received.
Again, I'm so very sorry to hear about this...happened to me some years ago due to a lightening bolt hitting the ground and causing a small hole in the copper tubing from burning the rebar under our house...this happened in Oct. and we didn't have any clue till Feb. when I entered my closet and everything was wet. I just threw out that small piece of copper tubing Tues...bad reminder!

Once again Julie, I am so sorry about this. But, I have a thought or two you might want to check out. If you do the return home thing, this is your opportunity to make your childhood home what you wished for and always wanted. As adults, you would be in charge of embracing it, and being in control. And you learn to take trips and sign up to teach in warm places in the winter- so it's not too bad! (just leave the faucets dripping a little when you leave the house for a while!) Perhaps now with the slow economy it is the perfect time to buy in to an awesome new area for the future! This economy has got to bounce back eventually, and building costs are low right now!
Second, have you ever visited the smoky mountains? In Chattanooga, Nashville and Sevierville- near Gatlinburg, it is lovely and has a very large artistic community. Literally in sevierville they have artists villages-every home is a different artist! Tons of art-buying tourists and galleries! There is a thriving economy (compared to other areas of the country.) They have no property taxes. And very little snow, with much milder weather! It was 70 degrees when I was there the end of Jan!!!
Just some random thoughts... I wish you the very best in whatever you choose!
